SELF-EDITING CHECKLIST

STRUCTURE
[ ] Does every chapter move the story or argument forward?
[ ] Is the opening doing enough to earn the next page?
[ ] Does the ending resolve what the beginning promised?

CHARACTER / VOICE (fiction and memoir)
[ ] Does each major character want something clear?
[ ] Is dialogue doing more than one job (revealing character, moving plot)?
[ ] Is the narrative voice consistent chapter to chapter?

LINE-LEVEL
[ ] Cut adverbs and filler words on a dedicated pass
[ ] Read key scenes aloud — awkward rhythm is easier to hear than see
[ ] Check for repeated words/phrases within the same page

BEFORE YOU SUBMIT OR PUBLISH
[ ] A fresh pair of eyes has read the full manuscript
[ ] You've taken at least one full day away from the manuscript before a
    final read-through
[ ] Formatting matches the target publisher/platform's guidelines
